BETHEL — Each year, the parks and recreation department has to dredge Bennett Pond because of the erosion along its bank.
But this could become a thing of the past — or at least a less frequent occurrence — with the addition this month of hundreds of plants around the water to create a riparian buffer. The plants will filter the runoff and prevent goose droppings and fertilizer from entering the pond, while their roots will provide stability to the area.
