He called to fret over the meagre 12% raise he got, against a junior dev working under him and got 40% raise — his compensation now totaling 85% of the senior dev supervising 10 other junior devs like him.

I didn’t know how to console him. I gave him the best I could — by listening to him for 30 long minutes.
