I’d like to address a question that almost all programmers ask: how do I finish a side project?

There is absolutely no shame in asking this. I know that I have asked it too many times to count. Creating an environment where you can continually chip away at something that isn’t a priority (as is the nature of a side project) is inherently difficult and against human nature. But there are ways to combat our tendencies, and use other tools to overcome them.
