The father of the boy who was dramatically rescued from a Paris balcony was apparently distracted by Pokemon Go at the time. CNN reports that according to French prosecutor Francois Molins, the father had gone out shopping and left the child at home alone. The mother is currently living elsewhere. But the shopping trip took longer than anticipated because the dad decided to play some Pokemon Go on his way back.
The "Spider-Man" rescue incident grew international attention due to a viral video, in which a Malian migrant named Mamoudou Gassama climbed four stories of an apartment building to save the child dangling from a balcony. The father now faces up to two years in prison for abandoning his parental responsibilities, and will be sentenced in September. The child had been placed in temporary care while the father was in custody, but they've now been reunited. French president Emmanuel Macron presented Gassama with a gold medal for courage. He's also been offered French citizenship and a job with the Paris fire brigade.
