This biggest news from the Nintendo eShop this week is the release of Pokémon Quest, a stripped-down take on everyone’s favorite pocket monsters. The game is free-to-start on the Nintendo Switch, and will come to mobile devices this June. If you’ve ever wanted a version of Pokémon that has been squished through the aesthetics of Minecraft, you’re in luck.
But now that we’ve got that out of the way, we can talk about the real big news in the eShop this week: West of Loathing. It’s a game that shouldn’t be as good as it is; West of Loathing barely has graphics, its sense of humor relies on puns and you may be fooled into thinking there’s not much there when you first begin playing. But trust us: This is a game filled with warmth and solid goofs. It often feels like something out of the classic Shockwave animations of the early internet. If any of this sounds good, even a little, you’d be well rewarded by giving this a try.
