Destiny 2 developer Bungie revived the game’s winter event, The Dawning, this week, seeking to bring some holiday cheer to the cosmos. Instead, players are fuming at The Dawning’s loot boxes and the way the game doles them out, casting the studio as a money-grubbing Grinch.

Bungie launched The Dawning on Tuesday, Dec. 19, and it is scheduled to run for three weeks, until Tuesday, Jan. 9. As in previous years, the event brings holiday decorations to the game’s social spaces, along with some fun seasonal activities — this time around, Guardians can play hockey and partake in snowball fights. In addition, the Mayhem Crucible gametype has returned, although a bug with the Voidwalker Warlock is currently wreaking havoc in Mayhem matches.
