The Wii Shop Channel is shutting down in January 2019 — which sounds far away, but so did 2017 a minute ago — and that means more than 200 Virtual Console titles will be unavailable for purchase alongside it.

Many of the Wii’s Virtual Console games made it onto the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, sure. But games like Kirby’s Avalanche, ActRaiser and Super Smash Bros. remain unavailable on those platforms, leaving the Wii (and their original consoles) as the only place to purchase and play them these days. When the Wii Shop Channel goes, so will our ability to rediscover some classic titles that we may have procrastinated on picking up.
