Rockstar has explained how the HUD elements work in Red Dead Redemption 2. Unlike some games that flood the screen with numerous waypoints and objective-markers, Red Dead Redemption 2's HUD is minimal by default. A small mini-map is shown on the bottom-left corner of the screen that displays important objectives. Alternatively, you can make the mini-map larger or you can turn it off entirely (just like you could in 2010's Red Dead Redemption).

Also contained in the HUD are meters for health, stamina, and Dead Eye. Another interesting new option is that you can play with a compass only for the mini-map. Additionally, you can see critical health and stamina meters for your horse.
