Ninja Theory is bringing Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice to virtual reality platforms Oculus Rift and HTC Vive next week. On July 31, the developer will release Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice VR Edition — a separate version of the game — for Windows PC. It will be free to owners of the original game who purchased the game on Steam.
In the above video, Ninja Theory explains why it brought Hellblade to VR, and details the challenges in bringing the title to Rift and Vive. The studio had to experiment with camera tricks and head-tracking control methods to prevent players from feeling nauseated while they play. The game’s visuals were also painstakingly optimized to boost performance, Ninja Theory said. Even still, the VR Edition of the game will require a pretty hefty minimum hardware spec; players will need at least an Nvidia GTX 1080 or AMD Radeon RX 580 GPU to run the game at its intended 90 frames-per-second frame rate.
