Light rain showers early Sunday morning served as an overture for an atmospheric river storm that could bring drenching rain, strong winds and even hail to the Bay Area over the next couple days, as well as several feet of snow to the Sierra Nevada mountains.
San Jose and the Santa Cruz mountains are expected to encounter the brunt of the storm in the Bay Area, which should intensify late Sunday and early Monday morning while providing the area’s first real drenching in about a month. To the east, the Sierra Nevada mountains are forecast to receive up to 100 inches of snow over the next couple days — a wallop that prompted travel warnings for motorists visiting in the high country.
