Like nearly everyone in the Bay Area, I watched the Super Bowl, hoping in vain for a 49ers victory. Sigh. But, in addition to the competition on the field and the halftime entertainment, I was glued to the other competition of the day – the Super Bowl commercials.

Taking a point of personal privilege, one reason is because my son – Will Magid – wrote, produced and played trumpet for the music behind Porsche’s commercial for its first electric car, the Taycan.  As an electric car enthusiast, I was also pleased to see commercials for the Audi E-Tron Sportback, the Ford Mustang Mach-E and even a Hummer that’s not a gas guzzler.
