An ‘atmospheric river’ is expected to hit California starting midweek, delivering heavy rain and gusty winds to the Bay Area and as much as 6 inches of rain to the region’s coastal mountains, according to the National Weather Service.

In the Bay Area, the first big push of rain is forecast to arrive over the North Bay on Tuesday or early Wednesday and then spread inland Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
