Microsoft on Monday rolled out a new version of Skype for desktop, and said it would end support for the older "classic" version on Sept. 1.

The updated version of the video and voice-calling platform, dubbed version 8.0, will replace Skype version 7.0. New features include free HD video and screensharing calls, meaning you can get on a call with 1 to 24 people; message reactions; @mentions for directly addressing someone in a group chat; a chat media gallery that lets you see all the files, links and photos in a conversation; and the ability to share photos, videos and other files up to 300 MB at a time. The new version is also more reliable and has faster load times, according to the company. Users can upgrade for free.
