By now, most “Star Wars” enthusiasts are aware that Gina Carano has been fired from the wildly popular Disney+ hit “The Mandalorian” for social media posts that Lucasfilm deemed “abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Over the ensuing hours, plenty of fans took to social media applauding the dismissal of Carano, who played Rebel shock trooper-turned-New Republic marshal Cara Dune for two seasons. But she also had some supporters, including her home-state senator Ted Cruz, who viewed the firing as another example of cancel culture run amok.
