Robert Pasquinelli was only 8 years old that Christmas, but he already sensed something special about his hometown and Willow Glen neighborhood. Little did he know that it would inspire a renowned artist decades later.
Imagine life in the late 1940s and early 1950s. It was a time when kids played outside until dinner, gates were cut out in fences so neighbors could readily pay a call with something sweet to eat or a bit of conversation, Lincoln Avenue donned overhead Christmas lights, which by today’s standards were very modest, and outdoor decorative lighting was nonexistent. Pasquinelli and his 11-year-old sister Marilou attended Willow Glen Elementary School, watched black-and-white television, and spent many an afternoon at La Villa Delicatessen owned by his aunt and uncle, Ann and Frank Giacomelli.
