Tesla reached a historical milestone Wednesday, and it’s one that Chief Executive Elon Musk will probably keep his eyes on for the next several months.

That’s because shortly after stock-market trading began, Tesla’s shares rose as much as 8.6%, to an intraday high of $594.48, to give the company a market capitalization of $107.2 billion. And crossing that $100 billion valuation threshhold sets Musk up for a big potential payout in the form of Tesla stock options.
