From Wine Country to the Peninsula, residents awoke in the early hours of Wednesday morning with orders to flee the wildfires that have raged out of control around the region since Sunday.

In San Mateo and Santa Cruz counties, officials were going door-to-door to get residents out of the path of the CZU August Lightning Complex fires, which had grown to 10,000 acres by Wednesday morning. More than 22,000 Peninsula and Santa Cruz County residents have already evacuated, with more expected as the fire continues to burn.
