If you’re looking for an in-depth course on Python and a comprehensive introduction to programming topics in general, I highly recommend Udacity’s Intro to Programming Nanodegree program. The program includes human reviewed coding projects, a custom chat based mentorship platform and in-browser code exercises and projects. The following lessons are meant to be introductory concepts for programming with Python and are not produced by Udacity. No part of this content was taken from any Udacity course or program. My opinions and thoughts are my own. This is the first part of a series designed to introduce the Python programming language to new coders, but without using any video lectures. We’ve developed a dependency on using video for teaching programming, without much emphasis on putting people’s fingers on their keyboards and getting them typing.

Over the next few months, I’ll be writing up lessons that simulate the way that I first learned to program almost 25 years ago, but with a much kinder programming language (hello QBasic!). We’ll cover the basics of programming over the first several lessons, then move onto simple projects that novice programmers can implement as explore more advanced topics.
